The Hardware Product Owner role in Aptiv has responsibility to ensure delivery of all Hardware facets of a customer project targeting maximum re-use of the HW architecture in the product design.  This person will have matrix responsibility for multiple electrical, mechanical, and validation engineers, working with Aptiv direct-line resource managers.  It is expected a HWPO will focus on a given product line component for a given customer project or several customers’ projects depending upon component complexity.  The HWPO will also serve as a core member of the platform HW architecture team.

Your role:

Product Line Project Team Responsibilities:

  • Single point of contact (SPOC) between HW Factory (HW architecture, execution, and validation) and the Aptiv product line project team.  

  • SPOC from HW to OEM customer on HW issues

  • Provide clear ownership and escalation path for all HW deliverables and issues.

  • Ensure HW tasks are planned, implemented, and coordinated within the HW Factory to meet quality, delivery, and budget KPIs per HW factory MOS.  

  • Ensure HW team is staffed per plan.  Work with HW resources managers to ensure project resources are available, qualified, and focused on project deliverables.

  • SPOC owner for assigned HW requirements.  Manage HW design requirements with product line systems engineering and HW factory competencies.  Watch for, document, and manage changes in requirements and design scope.  Initiate and lead change requests and HW team responses to the product line.

  • Update plans, resources, and expense needs per scope changes and coordinate with cost center owners who maintain the forecasts.

  • Coordinate HW design content for product line design reviews

  • Manage project HW design deviations from the platform HW architecture with the platform team.

  • Drive closure of design quality issues including verification, DV, PV, concerns.

  • Represent the hardware team in cross competency issues beyond HW Factory

  • SPOC  from HW to the manufacturing team.  Ensure the HW design is consistent with the manufacturing bill of process (BOP) for the given manufacturing footprint.  Coordinate and resolve deviations as needed.

  • SPOC from HW to the purchasing team.  Ensure that supplier selection is consistent with product platform approved sources.  Make visible new supplier recommendations to stakeholders including the platform, product line, HW Factory, and supplier quality.  Ensure supplier selection meets HW KPI’s with agreed upon risk.

  • Enable project teams to adopt new HW processes for ASPICE and Agile methods

  • Ensure project lessons learned are reviewed across platform projects.

Platform HW Architecture Team Responsibilities:

  • Align platform HW architecture to customer RFQs and proposals to attain 70% re-use.

  • Support product line Start Centers with HW swim lane input including guidance on HW architecture, bill of material (BOM), and required engineering resources and expenses

  • Develop, document, and maintain platform HW architecture content.  Define common architecture vs customer specific content.  Evaluate project deviations to the platform HW architecture

  • Provide expert technical support to projects and support cross project reviews and look across

  • Ensure that platform implementation delivers annual material cost reduction to target.  Evaluate and bundle cost improvements into executable packages.

  • Ensure project HW peer reviews are robust and attended by key peer review board members

  • Engage with Advanced Engineering and Centers of Competence to develop robust HW architecture meeting the product line roadmap requirements

Your background: 

  • Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Engineering 

  • Several years of professional experience in an international company, preferably in the automotive or electronics industry 

  • Cross-functional engineering experience, able to cover EE, ME, and validation topics, while interfacing with Systems, SW, manufacturing, and purchasing 

  • Over 5 years of team lead experience 

  • Strong focus on interpersonal skills – willingness to develop

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills 

  • Ability to solve problems - creativity

  • Fluency in English
